Here's my powerpoint presentation about the history of Vivienne Westwood.

Second toile

I traced the hood pattern from the draped hood, incorporating the darts into a new panel down the centre of the hood. It definitely looks better, but now the hood is curving round the face too much. When i put it on i couldn't even see, so i'll have to trim it back quite a way or add some fabric to the centre panel.

The jacket shape

First i made the pattern for the cropped jacket and made it up in calico shown below. To make it tailored i've added shoulder pads and vents in the sleeves.

Next i had to drape the hood. I've never made a hood before so i found a pattern cutting book with some information about it. I basically drew a big rectangle and then guessed the shape. I decided it was probably better to drape it.

I managed to get the draping of the hood i wanted at the bottom, but as you can see in the photo above it was gaping aroung the head massively.

I put some darts in around the head to make the fit better.

I then turned it round the right way to make sure it was the right shape i wanted:

I dont like the shape of the hood with the 2 darts so i'm going to insert a panel down the centre which incorporates the 2 darts.

Building my collection

To put my collection together, i first chose all of my favourite garments, then cut them out so i could use them in a sort of doll dressing exercise.

I started by choosing the dresses, jumpsuit and bottoms i was going to use.

Then i started mix and matching the tops to the bottoms.

I then put all the outfits together and made sure they worked together.

I then brought some jackets into the collection by doing the same thing, finalising the outfits.

Design development session 3

The task is getting easier with each week. I'm managing to produce designs a lot quicker. I used a fine liner to stop myself from faffing about.

Design Development session 2

During Fridays lesson we were asked to do the same task as last week but this time with shirts, sleeves and skirts.

Sleeves

Pretty much hated this task again! I just couldnt get into the flow of it, and only like about 2 of the sleeves i designed.

Shirts

Chloe saw how much i struggling with the sleeves so helped me out by giving me some charcoal and it worked a treat! This was the first time i managed to reach my target of 6 pages. It was much quicker to work with and also a lot more expressive.

Skirts

I didn't do so well with this one. I churned out the pages but didn't particularly come up with anything good

Design development session 1

During fridays lesson we were given the task of starting our design development, but we were given a time limit to do so many. I have to admit I'm one of those people who likes to sit there doing one page of designs for about 2 hours. This task was all about doing the exact opposite that; don't think, just draw.

Silhouettes

We were first asked to draw silhouettes of garments; aiming for 6 pages in half an hour. Obviously this didn't happen. After having a panic for about 10 minutes trying to get into it, I managed to do 3 and a bit pages. After looking at other people work it became apparent i was putting far too much detail in my designs.

I've carried on the task since fridays lesson. Below are a few pages, they're a bit faint so sorry if you cant see them. I've just got to add a bit of colour to them now.

Cuffs

This was quite possibly the most painful task in the world! Thats about all i want to say about that.

Collars

This was slightly less painful than the cuffs, but not much. It was hard to design collars related to my project. It's given me a few ideas to incorporate into my designs though.
